Oak Lawn Regional Water Project - Road Construction Notice - April 20, 2026

The Oak Lawn Regional Water Project is scheduled to begin on April 20. This phase of the project includes installation of a 60-inch water transmission main along Southwest Highway through the Harlem Avenue intersection.

What to Expect

• Construction will take place in the northbound lanes of Harlem Avenue.
• Traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction, utilizing the current southbound lanes.
• Left and right turns will remain permitted on both Southwest Highway and Harlem Avenue.
• Traffic delays are expected in all directions; however, access to all existing driveways and side streets will be maintained.

Detours to Reduce Harlem Avenue Congestion

Eastbound Southwest Highway:

• Continue east across Harlem Avenue to Ridgeland Avenue
• Turn right on Ridgeland and proceed south to 111th Street
• Turn right on 111th Street and proceed to Harlem Avenue
• Turn left to access southbound Harlem Avenue

Westbound Southwest Highway:

• Continue west across Harlem Avenue to 111th Street
• Turn right on 111th Street and continue to LaGrange Avenue
• Turn right on LaGrange Avenue and proceed to 95th Street
• Turn right on 95th Street and take the ramp to northbound Harlem Avenue

These detours are intended to reduce traffic volume on Harlem Avenue during construction. Attached you will find maps of these detours which you may wish to print and share with your employees and patients.
